How to get a Traffic Control Signal Device / ITS Device listed on the Florida DOT Approved Product List
Step 1: Request for Product Consideration:
To begin the approval process, complete a Request for Product Consideration (RFPC) form.
The information provided will be used to determine how you should proceed. Applicants can expect a response within 14 calendar days after receipt of the form.
Step 2: Quality System Evaluation:
To begin the quality system evaluation, complete an Acceptable Quality System List Application (and FDOT quality system evaluation compliance matrix)
The application and compliance matrix will be evaluated to Florida DOT quality system requirements.
Applicants can expect a response within 30 calendar days after receipt of the application. Once all requirements are met, the vendor will be added to the Acceptable Quality System List and directed to proceed to step 3.
Re-evaluation will occur every four years.
Step 3: APL Application Review & Product Evaluation/Approval
After completing steps 1 and 2 above, you will be directed to submit an Approved Product List (APL) Application.
Applicants can expect a response within 14 calendar days of receipt regarding APL application review. Upon APL application approval, the product will be requested and tested for compliance to Florida DOT product specifications. The vendor can expect test results within 45 calendar days after receipt of the product for testing.
Listing on the APL and Re-evaluation:
Upon successful completion of the steps 1, 2 & 3 above, the product will be listed on the Florida DOT Approved Product List (APL). A re-evaluation of the product will occur every four years during the quality system re-evaluation. Be aware of your re-evaluation date and when due, complete an Acceptable Quality System List Application to begin the re-evaluation process.

How to get a Traffic Control Signal Device / ITS Device listed on the Florida DOT Approved Product List
All contractors, manufacturers or suppliers who intend to sell or install a transportation device within
the State of Florida must follow the department's approval process as outlined below. it shall be unlawful for any
public body or official to purchase, or for anyone to sell, any traffic control signal or device unless it conforms with the
manual and specifications published by the department of transportation and is certified to be of such conformance prior to sale.

Transition of Electronic Devices Meeting FDOT Standard Specification
102 and 990-3 from the Qualified Products List to the Approved Product List
Beginning January 4, 2010, the following electronic products listed on the Department's Qualified
Products List (in Section 102 Maintenance of Traffic) must follow the approval process outlined below:
Portable Arrow Boards, Portable Changeable Message Signs, Portable Highway Advisory Radio, Portable Radar
Speed Display Units, Portable Regulatory Signs and Warning Lights.
