Carina Piers (named after the Latin word "Carina" for the delta-shaped keel of a boat.)

Carina Pier Advantages:
- Lighter visual impression as compared to conventional bascule piers.
- Reduced Bascule Span Length because of the need to build behind existing bascule bridge foundation resulting in:
               1. Reduction of Counterweight
               2. Saving of Machinery and Electrical Equipment
- Larger Transverse Openings
- By nestling the Counterweight within the Carina Pier, Approach Span Connections are simplified.
- Unique Element
- Improved Span Proportions
