State Materials Office
Overview
The Aggregate Acceptance Unit ensures the quality of aggregates in Florida’s transportation system by approving and monitoring aggregate sources. This Unit develops, reviews and recommends changes to the Department's policies and specifications for aggregate materials used in construction. The Aggregate Unit also conducts ongoing Department research and evaluation of aggregate performance, base materials including new aggregate sources and recyclable waste products. This unit also provides technical assistance in the resolution of aggregate related construction problems. The Aggregate Laboratory conducts testing to support these functions, including LA Abrasion, sieve analyses, specific gravity, and sodium soundness.
