Traffic Crash Form Reporting Workshop for Law Enforcement Trainers

Crash data is only as reliable as the information that the law enforcement officers include on the traffic crash form. Database managers have indicated that needed information is frequently not included in the report. Officers may not know how to complete some of the boxes on the crash form, or they may not understand the importance of the information.

Several one-day workshops will be held around Florida to teach officers how to fill out the crash form accurately and completely. Approximately 500 law enforcement trainers will be trained during the three-year period. The workshop may include sessions on commercial vehicle crashes, long form versus short form crashes, contributing causes, road system identifier, update forms, how to complete narratives and diagrams, and alcohol/drug use. The trainers will take the information back to their agencies and train officers who conduct crash investigations.
