Florida Highway Patrol Electronic Submission of Crash Form

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) is working to convert the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) from submitting paper copies of crash reports to electronic transmission of those crash reports. Members of the DHSMV information technology section are writing the software that is needed to make electronic transmission possible. The necessary hardware is in place.

Currently, crash reports are submitted in a paper format and the data must be entered and scanned. This delays the availability of crash data, makes it less accurate, and also makes it less cost effective to provide to different entities.

Upon the completion of this project in August, 2007, it is expected that all crash reports completed by the Florida Highway Patrol will be submitted electronically. This represents 34.57% of all crash reports generated in the State of Florida.
