Emergency Medical Services Delays in receiving emergency care can contribute to death or permanent injury of traffic crash victims. With tourist attractions, state and local parks, and favorable weather, there are a large number of motorists and pedestrian visitors in addition to the permanent residents of the state. This increase in people, and the resulting increase in motor vehicle crashes, can tax state and local EMS systems beyond their capability. Florida has established a trauma registry that allows patient data to be evaluated to better understand the specific types and causes of motor vehicle occupant and pedestrian injuries and deaths so that better injury prevention programs can be developed. It is, therefore, essential that all EMS data elements are standardized and are able to be linked to various medical and traffic crash databases on the state and local levels. |
