FDOT's Safety Office is responding to the pedestrian safety challenge in Florida with the launch of a new pedestrian awareness campaign. “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow - Safety Doesn’t Happen By Accident” will focus on reminding motorists and pedestrians of pedestrian laws, especially “stop before turning right on red” and “always use a crosswalk”.
A 30-day pilot campaign was launched July 30, 2012 in Miami-Dade and Hillsborough counties. Upon completion, the campaign will be evaluated for use in the highest ten Florida counties with a pedestrian crash and fatality problem.
