About Us

Thank you for visiting the Hydraulics Section site. The Central Office Hydraulics Section provides hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater management, and coastal engineering services to ensure that Florida DOT provides a safe, economical transportation system that preserves the quality of Florida's environment.

Our responsibilities are listed below:

  • Develop and periodically update policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and guidelines for the practice areas below:

     

    Hydraulic design of drainage systems for Florida roadways and bridges,

     

    Hydraulic design of cross drains conveying regional flows through the Department's right-of-way,

     

    Prediction of bridge scour for riverine and tidal waterways,
    Design of bank protection and bridge scour countermeasures,


    Prediction of wave climates and forces on bridge,

     

    Design of stormwater management, including sediment and erosion control

  • Provide hydrology, hydraulic, stormwater management, and coastal engineering support services for other offices within the Department's Central Office
  • Develop and deliver hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater management, and coastal engineering design training to personnel working on behalf of the Department.
  • Review District hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater management, and coastal engineering practices for compliance with procedures and use of good judgment
