Tampa Street Scene (21 k)

Looking north on Franklin from Lafayette in 1926 you could still see the Hillsborough County Courthouse. It is the domed building on the right. It was constructed at about the same time as the Tampa Bay Hotel, in the late 1800s. The courthouse building was demolished in 1952, but the Tampa Bay Hotel still stands and operates as the University of Tampa. A trolley car also is visible in the photo. The trolley cars were run by Tampa Electric from 1885 until 1946. A ride on the trolley car cost five cents.
