The 1920s witnessed an increase in the number of passenger ships traveling to and from Miami. On January 1, 1921, the S.S. Georgiana Weems instituted the first regular service between Miami and Baltimore. On November 24 1924, the S.S. Apache entered the port inaugurating the first direct passenger service between New York and Miami.
