SR 64: From west of Carlton Arms Boulevard to Interstate 75

 

The roadway improvements consist of widening the roadway from four to six lanes, removing old asphalt and resurfacing, bike lanes, drainage improvements and sidewalk construction.

 

Project Start Date: April 2012

 

Estimated completion: Fall 2013

 

Contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

 

Project cost: $12.7 million

I-75: Freeway Management System: Manatee County and Satellite Traffic Management Center

 

This project installs closed-circuit television cameras, dynamic message signs, road weather information systems, highway advisory radio, non-intrusive microwave vehicle detectors, emergency generator back-up system and fiber optics communications cable and transmission equipment for approximately 56 miles along the I-75 corridor starting at the Charlotte/Sarasota County line (approximate mile marker 172) and ending at Sarasota/Manatee County (University Parkway, approximate mile marker 213).

 

Project start date: April 2012

 

Estimated completion: Summer of 2014

 

Contractor is World Fiber Technologies, Inc.

 

Project cost: $21 million

 

US 41 from 73rd Street to the I-275 ramp

 

This project consists of replacing the railroad tracks and reconstructing the railroad crossing, minor drainage improvements and signing and pavement markings.

 

Project start date: July 2013

 

Project estimated completion: Fall of 2013

 

The contractor is Gibbs & Register, Inc.

 

Project cost: $1 million
