  1. Measuring Cognitive Distraction in the Automobile - This study challenged the notion that drivers are safe and attentive as long as their eyes are on the road and their hands are on the wheel. Using three different experiments, the study measures cognitive distraction during different tasks while driving.
  2. Improved Guidance Could Enhance States’ Use of Life-Cycle Cost Analysis in Pavement Selection - This report describes how state transportation agencies currently conduct and use LCCA for pavement selection and assesses the extent to which FHWA’s guidance for conducting LCCA conforms to best practices.
  3. TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE: Limited Improvement in Bridge Conditions over the Past Decade, but Financial Challenges Remain - This testimony addresses what is known about the current condition of the nation’s bridges and impact of federal funding for bridges and a preliminary look at recent changes to the surface transportation and bridge program made by MAP-21.
  4. National Scenario Planning Peer Exchange Report - July 8-10, 2012 - This report summarizes a national scenario planning peer exchange jointly sponsored by FHWA and the FTA. The peer exchange included discussion of scenario planning best practices, allowed agencies newer to scenario planning to learn from peers, and aimed to develop a community of practice for scenario planning practitioners and help guide future directions of the FHWA and FTA scenario planning program.
  5. A Toolkit for Accelerated Bridge Construction - This project brief provides an overview of the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2) Project R04: Innovative Bridge Designs for Rapid Renewal, which developed standardized approaches to designing and constructing complete bridge systems.
  6. Incorporating Greenhouse Gas Emissions into Transportation Planning and Decision Making - This report background provides research on GHG emissions and energy consumption, information that is important for understanding where the transportation sector fits into an overall policy or program for reducing GHG emission.
