The 2003 Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 676 that enacted Florida Statutes, Sections 339.61-64, which formally created
the Florida Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) and provided for its development and implementation. The statute provisions specify the initial basic system
components of the SIS designated according to the facilities criteria recommended in the
SIS Steering
Committee "Final Report". The statute also required the development of
an initial SIS Strategic Plan to support
and guide the continued development of the SIS System. The statutes also created the Statewide
Intermodal Transportation Advisory Council (SITAC).
The 2004 Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 1456 (State Law Chapter 2004-366) which amended various sections of Chapter 339, Florida
Statutes adding provisions to fund future improvements to the SIS.
