FAQ Answers - Electronic Delivery

EDI’s Basic HTML index displays the wrong county name in the header information (Dade instead of Miami-Dade and Alochua instead of Alachua), how can I fix this?.

You can edit the HTML file with a text editor, like Notepad and carefully make the correction or you can download a corrected EDI support file and replace the original found in the FDOT2008 software.

Download the ProjectID.zip and replace it with the ProjectID.xslt file in the FDOT2008\APPS\EDI2\support folder.

EDI creates the Project.ps, but does not create the Project.pdf, what can I do?

You may have set the Plot File Type to Portable Document Format (PDF) at some point. Change this option back to Postscript (PS) before attempting to create the Project.pdf. Look for Plot File Type, on the MicroStation tab page of the Options dialog. From the EDI main menu; select Tools, then Options to display the advanced settings Options dialog.

You may experience a similar problem, if Ghostscript settings are incorrect. From the EDI main menu, select Tools->Options…->EDI [tab]->EDI Settings [tab]->Uninstall [button], to re-initialize EDI settings.

How do I configure EDI v2.6 for XM to address the MicroStation XM line style problem (Intrinsic line styles do not plot/display properly)?

EDI Version 2.6.3247+ can be configured to use MicroStation V8i for plotting while leaving MicroStation XM in place for the mining process. You must obtain EDI v2.6.3247 from the June 2009 FDOT2008.00.02 Hotfix or subsequent releases of FDOT software.

To configure EDI, select “Tools->Options… (Advanced EDI Application Settings)” from the main menu. This will display the “Options” dialog. Next, select the MicroStation tab and use the “MicroStation: Browse” to identify MicroStation V8i for the plotting function in EDI. The mining process will continue to use MicroStation XM as originally configured.

Configure EDI

You may also configure a specific version of MicroStation for the mining operation, from the “SheetInfo (Navigator)” tab on the “Options” dialog. However, this is not required to fix the line style problem.

Note
: When EDI is originally installed or is re-installed (via the “EDI [tab] ->EDI Settings [tab] ->Uninstall [button]” on the “Options” dialog), EDI will use the MicroStation application configured when the FDOT software was installed (MicroStation XM).

GSview fails to display my Postscript file and pops up an error window. This only happens with PostScript files created by the new FDOT2008 EDI. How can I display them properly?

The MicroStation XM PostScript driver outputs code that is incompatible with older versions of Ghostscript. Ghostscript is a PostScript interpreter used by EDI, GSview and Ghostview. Ghostscript v5.5 and GSview v2.6 are included with the FDOT2008 software. Licensing concerns prevent the distribution of the latest versions.

To view PostScript files created by MicroStation XM, download a newer version of Ghostscript and a viewer such as GSview or Ghostview from:

Ghostscript, Ghostview and GSview http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/
1) Choose the latest version for GPL Ghostscript
2) Follow the link and find the install for Windows
3) Return to the Ghostscript home page for GSview 4.9
4) Follow the link and find the install for Windows
5) Install Ghostscript and then GSview
6) Run GSview and select Options->Easy Configure to finish

Suggested GSview settings for viewing EDI created Postscript files
1) Options->Turn Off “Save Settings on Exit”
2) Options->Turn On “Ignore DSC”
3) Orientation->”Landscape” and “Swap Landscape”
4) Media->”11 x 17”
5) Adjust the window size to fit the plans sheet, then
6) Options->”Save Settings Now”

When I try to create Postscript files, EDI starts MicroStation and opens EDI.DGN, but will not create the Postscript file; how do I fix this?

When EDI starts MicroStation (MS), it must wait until MS initializes before attaching to the process. This process takes time to initialize and EDI allows ½ second (500 Milliseconds) by default. If the process fails to start up in a timely manner, you will see MicroStation open EDI.DGN and EDI will display the following message.

EDI and MicroStation Automation startup

If this happens on a regular basis, you can remedy this problem by selecting from the EDI main menu, Tools->Options…->MicroStation [Tab], and then increase the “OLE wait time”.

EDI MicroStation Option

Note: Slower (Older) PCs with many processes may increase the time MicroStation requires to initialization. Even if MicroStation appears to start quickly, initialization may be slower.

How do I increase the quality of linked data or image data in EDI for PDF output?

See MS-Word document: Increasing the quality of linked data or image data in EDI for PDF.

Besides the Electronic Delivery Training Documentation posted on the CADD Office's website, is there other guidance that is available?

There certainly is! Here are some excellent examples delivered by FDOT District 4 at their recent ED workshop:

Short Guide to E-Delivery Production

Electronic Delivery requires that the files in a delivery not contain spaces, special characters, etc. in the file names because it will cause certain programs in the suite to fail (flagged by the FileChecker application). I have lots of files that need to be renamed to remove spaces and special characters - Is there a program that can help me do this?

Yes there is, and many are freeware downloads available from the Internet. Here’s a link to several: http://www.nonags.com/nonags/fileren.html

We have no specific recommendations, but we are aware of consultants that have used the Lupas application successfully.
