After installing FDOT2004 MR6, I get an error message when running MicroStation. How do I fix this?
A:
This error message may be due to configuration MS_DGNAPPS configuration variables in the FDOT2004.UCF or by an incorrect security configuration in Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0.
Please see the link below for a PDF with steps to follow for resolving these issues.

What permission's must be set on the user's workstation for FDOT2004 to function properly?
A:
The following customization must be made to the standard desktop on CADD workstations for proper operation.
User Access Rights
Users must have "Modify" rights to files in the following directories on the local disk for the FDOT2004 software to operate properly.
Excel - Macro Security
The Macro Security settings in Microsoft Excel can be set no higher than Medium. Users must be allowed to run unsigned macros. Medium security will prompt users to choose if they want to run potentially unsafe macros. Low security will open all spreadsheets containing macros with no prompting.

- \program files\Bentley\workspace\users
- \FDOT2004\temp

How can “thumbs.db” be eliminated from an Electronic Delivery project (these file show up in EDI and FileChecker, but not in the Windows File Explorer)?
A:
If thumbnails are cached and "Hide protected operating system files" is enabled, "thumbs.db” files do not
show up in the File Explorer, but EDI and FileChecker still know they exist.
To eliminate thumbnail database files from your project: 1) change folder options to display the files; 2) delete the files using File Explorer:
From the File Explorer main toolbar, select “Tools->Folder Options…”
Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files”, then find the files and delete.
To prevent thumbnail files from being created, select “Do not cache thumbnails”. You may select “Hide protected operating system files” to hide other system files elsewhere on disk. But first uncheck so you can locate the files to delete.

The District check of our CD indicated that some of the files had “save full path” on. When we checked the files, they did not have the save full path checked. We also ran the report using the reference tool of the sitemenu and it showed that the files had save full path. This also occurred with some of our subconsultant’s files. Why this discrepancy?
A:
"Saving Full Path" works differently in V8 than it did in V7. V8 now has "Save Full Path" and
"Save Relative Path". Two different things.
The "Save Full Path" is saved or not saved depending on how MicroStation V8 is configured. By default the save reference full path is enabled. It depends on the value of MS_DisAllowFullRefPath.
"When set to 1, MicroStation does not save the full path to references. By default, MicroStation stores both an abbreviated (portable) path and the full path to references. The full path will be wrong if the directory structure for a project is changed or if a different file server drive letter is used, so it can cause inconsistent reference file location in those situations. Therefore, we feel that this option should be disables by setting (MS_DISALLOWFULLREFPATH = 1).
We have provided an easy way to strip the path from all reference attachments. See the FAQ page on the Engineering CADD System Office (ECSO) web site, about removing the "Save Full Path" from reference files.

Additional information:
- Setting Ms_DisAllowFullRefPath to 1 does not have a retroactive effect.
- This variable is already set to 1 under the FDOT2004 workspace with FDOT 2004 MR3 (+ hotfix) software. Previous version of FDOT 2004 software set it to 0 (due to an incompatibility with a Geopak component at that time).
- By default, this setting applies to a workstation, not a project. To be effective, all workstations must have this variable set, including those in the sub-contractor's office.
After installing MR5, the Structures SiteMenu items for placing Traffic Railings, Piles and Pedestrian-Bicycle Rails cells are missing.
A:
The names of a few of the folders that drive SiteMenu were changed in a configuration file but did not get included in the MR5 release.
