1.5.1 - Labels and Layer Locking
Step Description:
To place Labels go to the Annotate Tab on the Civil 3D Ribbon then the Labels & Tables Panel to Add Labels and select Pipe Network - Entire Network Section.
- This will label for any Section View any pipe that is displayed. If multiple pipes are displayed then all of them will be labeled at the same time. You can then move the labels so they are not overlapping other items.
- To run this command multiple times, go to the command line and copy the _AeccAddNetworkSectLabels command. Now on the command line type in Multiple and then paste the _AeccAddNetworkSectLabels command to repeat the command as many times as necessary for all cross sections.
Be sure to save the file.
Since the labels are dynamically linked as data shortcuts, whenever you syncronize or open the drawing, the labels will be reset since they are manual labels.
Layer Locking will overcome this problem with the labels. By default the Pipe Labeling (TextXSDrain_ex) and Pipe Network Section (DrainMisc_ex) are placed on different layers. Once you finish manually placing the labels, lock these layers to prevent the text and pipe networks from sycronizing. Using the Layer Manager is the easiest way to lock these layers.

Anytime you would like to modify any of these labels you would need to unlock the layers, make the modifications and then lock the layer again.
Be sure to save the file.
