New bus is one of many steps Polk is taking to become a Purple Heart County

LAKELAND -- Polk County plans to unveil a brand new Purple Heart County bus on Saturday at 10 a.m. The arrival of Polk County Transit Service's newest vehicle will help announce the city of Lakeland's new Purple Heart memorial at the current Veterans Memorial Park.

MCAT public safety policy enjoys great success as seniors take to free bus rides

Some public safety measures sound simple enough but reap big dividends once implemented. That's the case wi September, nobody could have predicted the outcome. Ridership soared as seniors took advantage of the offer, parked their cars and kept our streets a bit safer. This is a tremendous public safety program that too few Florida transit systems offer. Jacksonville provides free bus service to seniors age 60 and older. Miami-Dade offers county residents 65 years and over free transit with a Golden Passport card.
