Sinkhole Repair in a Pond:
Recently a sink hole occurred in District-2, SR 26 across from west end Golf Course,
Gainesville. District -2 Materials/Geotechnical Engineers investigated the sinkhole
location and its geometry and proposed remedial measures to the construction and
maintenance divisions.
Sinkhole formed when various solution channels merged after some rainfall. The sinkhole consisted of approximately 20 feet in diameter extending to depths ranging from 10 feet to 20 feet. Further investigation indicated presence of voids ranging from 8 feet to 22 feet located at depths of 15 feet and 26 feet below the pond bottom. Remedial measures consist of filling the exposed cavern with permeable concrete with geo-fabric and sand overlying.
