D-5 Reduces Utility Damage Investigation Time

On one job in District 5 the CEI staff proposed that the contractor post a copy of the active Sunshine One Call Tickets on the project bulletin board.  This practice reduced the amount of time required to investigate excavation damage for the Contractor doing the digging, the Utility Agency Owners, the Project Staff and the Florida Highway Patrol. Both the District  and the State Construction Office feel this is a simple inexpensive step that can save time and money in dealing with utility  damage problems and it should be replicated where ever practical.  For additional information on this innovative idea call Jim Richards at  (386) 943-5361

District One Project Review Form

Frequently, as the District Quality Assessment Coordinator was performing specific category Quality Assessment Reviews (QARs), other findings would be noted for which no checklist or other formal documentation existed. As a result, District One developed a “District Project Review” form, based on QAR form, 700-10-96.  It allows room to document significant findings as well as Action Taken or Follow-up required. The DCE and his assistants were given copies and the opportunity to use the form as they visit projects.
