FAA Letter to Airmen
This FAA Letter to Airmen advises of the
importance of obtaining Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR)
and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) information prior to flight and
includes links to internet websites that provide this
information. Pilots planning on transiting the Washington,
D.C. area are cautioned that with current TFRs and prohibited
areas there, it is prudent to remain beyond 15 nautical miles
of the DCA VOR/DME. Furthermore, pilots are reminded that
violating a TFR area can lead to interception by military
aircraft and possible FAA legal enforcement action being
taken.

BLM Website - TFR Information
The U.S. Department of the Interior,
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has now made available to all
aviators and fire staff interactive
current WAC, Sectional, and GNC Aviation Charts plotted with
graphical Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) information to
help pilots avoid inadvertent violation of Restricted
Airspace due to fire fighting operations and other national
airspace restrictions. The BLM National Aviation Office
understands the importance for pilots to be aware and
visualize graphically TFRs that are issued because of the
low-level, dense operations of aircraft in a fire zone.
Although it is the legal requirement of a pilot to rely on
text based NOTAMS issued from the FAA, many times they are
difficult to understand, and even more difficult to
understand the extent of the flight restriction. This site
will operate year round offering graphical updates at a
minimum of twice daily (7am and 1pm Mountain), 7 days a week,
during the fire season, and twice daily on business days
throughout the rest of the year. TFR's will generally be
updated much more frequently than the twice a day minimum.
