National Flight Procedures Office - NFPO (AVN-100)
The National Flight Procedures Office is responsible for development and maintenance of terminal and enroute instrument flight procedures in the National Airspace System (NAS). • Over 1,700 Non-Directional Beacon (NDB)
  • Over 2,700 VHF Omni-Directional Range (VOR)
  • Over 3,500 Global Positioning System (GPS)/Area Navigation (RNAV)

There are also several other instrument flight procedures available, including:

  • Microwave Landing System (MLS)
  • Localizer Approach System (LOC)

  • Simplified Directional Facility (SDF)
  • Standard Instrument Departure (SID)

Instrument Approach Procedures - Requirements
This FAA website page provides a good overview of requirements in making the decision to request a new Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP), including survey, airport data, environmental, funding, and reimbursement considerations.

Instrument Approach Procedures - Request
This FAA website page provides a good information to better understand the overall process for requesting a new Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP), including an IFP Brochure, and IFP Flow Chart, an IFP Request Form, and a searchable database of IFP Request Status Reports.

Instrument Approach Procedures - Schedule
This FAA website page provides the production plan for Area Navigation (RNAV, LNAV, or LNAV/VNAV) Instrument Flight Procedures based on Global Positioning System (GPS) technology that will be developed and published at an identified airport and runway end during each quarter of the specified year. This database is searchable by geographic region, fiscal year, and airport identifier. Additionally, please see the following definitions and descriptions of instrument approach terms:
