FDOT Call box removal Plan
- Currently have 2,752 push button type call boxes
- There are 58 base stations and 5 consoles
- Call box removals shall begin immediately and all call boxes, posts, mile marker signs and any other signs related to call boxes shall be removed by January 31, 2014
- The removal of the concrete pad shall occur by August, 2014
- If a mile marker panel is part of the call box and is located at the regular full mile location it shall be replaced/reinstalled within one week after removal of the call box with a mile marker panel. If the call box is located at an intermediate mile location then the intermediate mile marker does not need to be replaced
- Consoles will remain at FHP dispatch office until last call box is removed and then they will be removed and disposed of as appropriate
- The 58 base stations will remain in place at the towers and they will be put in standby mode until their license expires or they are used for another need
