Community Traffic Safety/Safe Communities
Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs) emerged during the 1980s. In Florida, largely because of identified increases in crashes, injuries, fatalities, and economic loss, it has became critical that city, county, state and Federal agencies, (i.e., law enforcement, emergency services, education and engineering) work in close coordination with one another in an effort to contain costs and at the same time strive to reduce the high number and severity of crashes. Promotion of the Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) concept will continue with the hopes that all key counties, among the states total of 67, may someday be covered. Involving communities in addressing traffic safety issues has proven to be an effective means of increasing public awareness and solving traffic safety problems throughout Florida.
